Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT, also known as tapping - helps you break free from old patterns, pain, emotional blocks and limiting beliefs.

It is a powerful innovative therapy that draws from the wisdom of ancient Chinese traditional medicine and is supported by modern advances in psychology and neuroscience.

It blends somatic (the body) and cognitive (the mind) processing - helping to regulate the nervous system, and release emotional or psychological stress.

It can bring about significant shifts for people, often at a depth that other therapies take a much longer time to reach.

EFT is simple and clear. I will support you with clear guidance throughout the session and at no point will you be wondering if you're doing it right. And it's something you can learn to do effectively for yourself. It supports you in accessing your body's own innate ability to heal - giving you a tool to support you for a lifetime.

I am here to support you on your journey. Whether that is shedding beliefs that hold you back, processing painful memories that are still with you, or learning to navigate life with more clarity, ease and self-compassion.

What to Expect

Sessions online and in person

Step One: Identify the focus and rate the intensity.

You bring the issue you want to work with. This may be a belief, emotional pattern, or memory. We begin with conversation, and I listen closely to understand how you experience the issue internally. I will guide you to notice and describe the thoughts, emotions and physical feelings you experience when you explore the issue verbally. You rate the intensity of the feeling at the beginning, and we return to this throughout the process.

Step Two: Guided tapping.

I guide you to tap through a sequence of acupressure points. You tap on yourself using your fingertips, I tap along on myself at the same time to demonstrate the sequence. The main points are on the face and upper body. There's no need to remove clothing or be lying down. While you tap on yourself, I share back to you specific words and phrases in your own language. You speak these aloud while tapping. Speaking out loud the way we usually only speak to ourselves internally helps you to access the core of your authentic experience. By tapping at the same time, you support your nervous system.

Step Three: Mind–body integration.

As you tap and vocalise the truth of your experience, the body’s stress response is soothed and the emotional weight around the issue can begin to soften. What might usually cause distress is now able to be explored while feeling calmer. Often there is a feeling of release as you vocalise the truth of your experience while tapping.

You rate the intensity at the end of the sequence, this helps to clarify and highlight shifts that happen, and bring them into your conscious awareness.

Step Four: Repeat.

We repeat this process throughout the session - you explore your experience verbally, we tap on it, you rate the intensity and see what new material comes up. Over a number of sessions we often work through from the initial presenting issue down through layers of experience and memory to the core beliefs and experiences that underpin the presenting issue.

Many people report feeling lighter, clearer and a renewed sense of possibility.

Step Five: Neuroplastic change.

Over time, the repeated use of this technique creates space for the brain to shift from old, reactive patterns into a more adaptable and flexible state. This is empowering. By making tapping a habit in your life you are giving yourself a tool to change your experience for the better.

Why work with me?

I believe in EFT. It has changed my life in ways I never expected and now I am here to support you in creating the change you want for yourself. At the bottom of this page are a selection of testimonials from past clients - please do have a read of those.

My work with EFT is collaborative, gentle, and paced with care. I can offer the attunement, stability and containment you need to be able to use EFT to make meaningful change in your life. What this means is that I support you in discovering your own insights as they arise naturally through the process. Often this is a process of you uncovering your own wisdom, resilience and self-compassion - I just help you spot it and bring it more fully into your conscious awareness. With this you support yourself as you process and release what you’ve been carrying.

I find working with EFT and guiding people to learn how to use it to support themselves deeply meaningful. EFT sits at the meeting point of a range of things that are important to me - my interest in the human journey, my grounding in neuroscience and therapeutic work, and my trust and belief that each of us has inherent worth and wisdom. Life can be brutal and can convince us otherwise, EFT can help us reconnect with that wisdom and rediscover our worth. Being a part of that is my great privilege.

Does EFT really work?

EFT has changed my life in a profound way. It helped me to change the way I see myself and my place in the world. But you don't need to take my word for it!

Studies show that EFT is an effective treatment for

(a) psychological conditions such as anxiety, depression, phobias, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD);

(b) physiological issues such as pain, insomnia, and autoimmune conditions;

(c) professional and sports performance; and

(d) biological markers of stress.

Meta-analyses evaluating the effect of EFT treatment have found it to be "moderate" to "large."

(Stapleton et al., 2022)

There is a large and ever-growing body of evidence showing the effectiveness of EFT.

EFT International (the awarding body I am accredited with) keep a research database where the latest trials and studies are listed.
