Working with trauma

EFT as a wonderful tool for gentle, effective support for working through and recovering from the effects of traumatic experiences

Establishing a sense of safety and trust is the foundation of trauma work. The relationship we build is an important part of that. Trauma can have a profound effect on how safe it feels to trust another person, express what you need or feel in control. I want our work together to give you an experience of being listened to and respected, with choice and control over what happens.

This is one of the reasons I really value EFT when working with trauma. Tapping is gentle and gives us different ways of approaching traumatic experiences and the effects they have had on you. We don't have to go straight to the most painful parts, and we may never need to go directly into them at all if you choose not to. Instead, we can work with the effects of the trauma that are showing up in your life now such as difficult emotions, beliefs or responses - without having to revisit the experience itself.

We can start by building a greater sense of safety in the present and around the issue more generally. As that grows, the work can start to feel more manageable and the more difficult aspects of what happened less overwhelming. From there, we can gradually work with the memories themselves, if and when you want to.

Over time, experiences that once brought up intense fear, shame, anger or distress can begin to feel less emotionally charged. The memory doesn't disappear and what happened isn't minimised, but it can become easier to remember without feeling as though you are right back there again. Its impact on your life in the present can become smaller too.

For me, this is what makes EFT such a supportive tool for trauma work: we can work gently with difficult experiences while protecting your sense of safety, choice and control throughout the process.

Tapping is also easy to learn and something you can use to support yourself in everyday life. That can be really empowering, giving you a tool of your own and putting control back where it should be: in your hands.
